Bacterial suspensions of Staph. aureus. B. subtilis and the mixture of the two were added to the rabbit macrophage suspended in Cell Maintenance Fluid(CMF) and normal rabbit serum. After an incubation period of 30 and 60 minutes at 37´C respectively. the bacteria-macrophage suspensions were investigated as regard to the percentage of macrophage -with intracellular organisms-and the percentage of intracellula´s organisms. ~ ~ +_
Results of observation were summarized as follows: .
1. In the Staph. aureus-macrophage suspension;
The percentages of macrophage with intracellular organisms were 45.5% after 30 minutes. "68 after 60 minutes in normal rabbit serum. and 47% after 30 minutes, 80.5% after 60 minutes respectively..Percentages of intracellular organisms were 91% after 30 minutes. 97.5% after 60 minutes in normal rabbit serum. and 79.5% after ~´minutes, 89.5% after 60 minutes in CMF.
2. In the B. subtilis-macrophage suspension;
The percentages of macrophage. with intracellular organises were 16% after 30 minutes. 26% after 60 minutes in normal rabbit serum. and 27% after 30 ~iniautes, ~ 44.5% after 60 minutes respectively, percentages of intracellular organisms were 82% after 30 minutes, 90% after 68 minutes in CMF.
3. In the bacterial mixture-macrophage suspension;
The percentages of macrophage with intracellular organisms were 12.5% after 30 minutes, 33% after 60 minutes in normal rabbit serum, and 16.5% .after .30 minutes, 36% after 60. minutes in CMF respectively. ~"
The percentages of intracellular organisms. on the other hagd, were 89%(Staph. aureas 77.5%. B. sustilis 11.5%) after 30 minutes. 93% after 60 minutes(S. aureus 83%. B, : subtilis 1t3%) is " normal rabbit serum, and 63% (S. aureus 57%, B. snbtilis 6% ).. after 30 minutes, 8(3% (S..aureus 7190. B. sabtilis 9%) after 60 minutes in CMF.
